My whole adult life I’ve been chasing the ever-elusive ‘balance’.
At times it’s been like a monkey on my back, ready to pounce and bring me down.
Other times, it held me back from fear of pushing too hard and ending up where I was before.. broken, exhausted, unable to keep going.
What if I was to tell you that BALANCE doesn’t exist?
That rather than bring equanimity into your life, trying to find balance will only bring frustration, a feeling of never doing enough and always letting someone down.
It’s okay, it’s not all doom and gloom.
Because there is another way… and I’ve found it. After 17 years, I’ve unlocked the secret.
Let’s face it, sometimes things need to get done at work or in your business that will pull you into longer hours. Or there’ll be times when you need to drop everything because a loved one just needs you.
How do you maintain ‘balance’ at times like these?
Rather than seek something external to you that you really have no control over, the secret is to get really really (really) clear on your values.
Values are emotional states you want to feel consistently. So they are things that YOU can control and influence.
Ask yourself what are the 6 values that will serve you best in your business and help get the results you are wanting in 1 year, 2 years, 5 years time?
And what are the 6 values that are important to you in your personal life? That if these emotional states were felt on a consistent basis, you would feel as though nothing else was missing.
You can spend a lot of time getting clear on, and aligning yourself with, these values. And so you should!
Because this is where the MAGIC happens.
You no longer get stuck in your head fretting about working too little or working to much. You no longer count the hours down to the minutes of ‘me’ time, family time, relaxation time.
Instead, you check in with your list of values when something feels ‘off’ or ‘not quite right’ and then, you can see what is missing and you do what needs to be done to fill that gap.
As a wise (and very good looking) man once said ‘Values are like fingerprints. Nobody’s are the same, but you leave ‘em all over everything you do ’. Nice one Elvis!
The point of this is that you are living values right now whether you realise it or not… but are they the RIGHT values for you and where you want to be in life?
And are they the values you want to be remembered by?
